Our Mission
We are an intentional community, living together and growing towards sustainability in the UK.

Living at Beech Hill
Current structure - Our community is made up of 17 adults of varying ages and 3 year old a baby living together in a large country house in Mid Devon. Individuals earn incomes in the wider world, for example – in education, therapy, retail, life coaching, and building work. Several members are now retired. We do not favour dogmatism, judgment or preaching, and aim to care for one another and enjoy life. We tolerate each other’s differences and enjoy having visitors and volunteers.

Accomodation and Land - Accommodation is both rented and leasehold, in separate flats and in the main house.
On our seven acres of land, we grow organic fruit and vegetables in two-walled Victorian gardens, polytunnels, a greenhouse, and orchards. We also have a paddock, an outdoor swimming pool, compost toilets, and a reed-bed sewage system, as well as a wind turbine, solar panels, and a combustion log boiler. Together we run a low-key camp site and any excess income is used on community projects. We share responsibility for our home and the land on which we live and most of us have a shared meal together in the evenings.

Visiting Beech Hill
As a volunteer - We run three volunteer programmes a year and also host long term volunteers mostly via WWOOF and HelpX. We greatly appreciate the contributions made by our volunteers and focus hard on ensuring their time with us is fulfilling, educational and fun. If interested, please visit our Volunteering page.
As a visitor - We have regular Community Experience Weekends which are attended by people wanting to find out more about community living, those wanting to form their own communities and folks wanting to enjoy a weekend away with likeminded people! Attending CEW is also the first step in our joining process – it’s a great opportunity to get to meet and work with existing members and to ask lots of questions! Please refer to the Events page for more information.

“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals. When we pool our strength and share the work and responsibility, we can welcome many people, even those in deep distress, and perhaps help them find self-confidence and inner healing.
